EDELWEISS

Many of us follow the strangest dreams,
xxignore all the signposts and half-inch it
xxto the nearest alp for the have-it-all view,

xxcamping on scree slopes and dining
xxon edelweiss salad.

Life’s one-way funnels, like meltwater runnels,
XXare beautifully simple:

XXtime and action.

Going back is occasionally possible,
xxwhen the late arrival connects with
xxthe late departure,

xxor when consequences start to materialize,
xxthen unravel unexpectedly.

Cold weather is worth trying, if you’re desperate, for a fever.

Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow,
XXbloom and grow forever.
